What to Expect During Your First Appointment
On your first visit to Stirling Dental Centre, you will be asked to arrive 20 minutes ahead of your scheduled appointment time so that our friendly staff can greet you and guide you through filling out our “getting to know you” forms. These generally include contact information, dental history and most importantly, a detailed medical history.
Complete Oral Examinations
Your oral health is often a reflection of your general health and as a new patient you will receive a comprehensive oral examination (COE) of your teeth and gums, bone support, as well as an intra-oral and head and neck cancer screening. You will be examined for tooth decay, missing teeth and the periodontal health of your teeth. This information creates a baseline for any work that might be recommended by our team going forward.
Prevention is so important in dentistry. It is our goal to keep you healthy and smiling throughout your life. To this end, regular appointments, cleanings and high quality dentistry will keep you on the right course.
We do use diagnostic digital radiographs as needed to help us diagnose any issues. We use them to include you in the discussion of any suggested treatment protocols.
The cancer screen is a comprehensive examination of your intra-oral tissues and gums, your tongue, your face, as well as your head and neck. Dentistry is at the forefront of this type of screening for different types of cancer or tissue abnormalities.
For additional information on complete oral examinations, please refer to our FAQ page.
Helping you achieve lifelong positive oral health is our shared goal. We will recommend a regular examination and cleaning schedule to keep you current and informed regarding your oral health. During these appointments, you will have an examination by the dentist, any necessary radiographs (X-rays), scaling to remove calculus, prophylaxis and polishing, followed by a fluoride treatment. The hygienist and doctor will discuss with you the condition of your teeth and gums and make any recommendations for follow-up treatments if needed.
Emergency Dental Services
Dental pain is real and can be serious. We understand that patients can develop dental emergencies with respect to pain, swelling and/or trauma. At Stirling Dental Centre, we do our best to accommodate dental emergencies as quickly as possible, generally the very same day. Common dental emergencies include:
If at all possible, we will seek to provide some level of care to alleviate the immediate problem. If you have a dental emergency, please give us a call at 613-395-2800 so we may prepare for your arrival.
Fees and Payments
For your convenience, our office accepts payment by Visa, MasterCard, Debit, cheque or cash. Fees are due and payable at the time of treatment. Dental treatments may be partly covered or not covered at all by insurance benefits. On occasion, special arrangements may be made in consultation with the doctor. These arrangements may help the patient proceed with recommended treatment, but at the same time, not to suffer financial stress or hardship.
For patients with third-party dental benefit plans, we will electronically submit your claim directly to your insurance company. This speeds up the claims process and the patient generally receives their reimbursement in a matter of a few days.
We provide two reminder calls before your appointment. The first is two weeks before your appointment, with the next being two days before. If you’re unable to keep your reserved appointment time, we ask that you give us at least 48 hours advance notice so we may offer that appointment time to another patient.
